The Plaza at The Forks is a legendary spot in Canada’s roller skating scene. As the country’s largest urban skate plaza and bowl complex, it has drawn big names like Tony Hawk and Bam Margera!
Fun fact: This was the only Canadian stop on Tony Hawk’s ‘Secret Skatepark Tour,’ which says a lot about how epic this place is.
We love its skateable sculpture design, which is built to handle the constant action of roller skaters, skateboarders, and BMX riders. It also keeps things cool with planters and trees that help offset the summer heat.
The space is slightly divided into two sections: one area with plenty of shade and trees for beginners, and another with deeper drops for advanced skaters. With rolling banks, ledges, stairs, and elevated areas for jumps, there’s no shortage of excitement here.
Pro Tip: If you’re interested in booking this awesome space for an event or session, simply fill out an application form online to get a cost estimate hassle-free! |

Winnipeg Roller Derby League is the city’s only flat-track roller derby league. We love that it’s entirely skater-run and operated, meaning every player is deeply passionate about the sport.
For those new to skating, they host new skater training camps throughout the year. You’ll learn all the basics like skating forward and backward, stopping with control, and mastering lateral movement on skates.
Now, let’s say you want to join the league, you can actually jump in right away with a free one-month trial! After that, regular monthly dues are $55, paid through an easy online subscription.
What’s cool is that they have their own app called BAND. Once you sign up, you’ll get a welcome email and an invitation link straight to your inbox.
Pro Tip: If you have a young skater in the family, sign them up for the Winnipeg Junior Roller Derby. It welcomes all genders aged 12-17 into its program, running from October to June; no experience is necessary—just bring the enthusiasm! |

Located right next to the Centennial Arena, St. Vital Skatepark has plenty of space to practice skating tricks. While the surface isn’t the smoothest, we think the variety of features here more than makes up for it.
For instance, we really enjoy its fun bowl section, which connects to a flowing snake run—perfect for building speed and working on transitions. And street-style skating lovers, there are manual pads, boxes, stairs, and handrails to test your skills.
The park also has a mini pipe, a half bowl, and several quarter pipes, making it a great place to practice both technical and vert-style skating. If you’re into banks and hips, there’s plenty of that too, all contouring a medium-sized pyramid.
Now, if you need a break, note that the park is conveniently close to convenience stores and restrooms. Simply grab a snack or hydrate before heading back out.
Pro Tip: No need to stress about parking here—there are plenty of free parking slots in the St. Vital Centennial Arena parking lot! |

Michael Komenda Memorial Skatepark in Charleswood offers a solid mix of obstacles in a more laid-back, neighborhood setting. At 25,000 square feet, it’s one of the biggest parks in the city, making it a great spot to roll without feeling crowded.
The park’s design has a smooth-flowing bowl and traditional street obstacles—ideal for newbies and pros. You’ll also find a mini-ramp, quarter pipes, banks, pads, and ledges.
Plus, the colored concrete and custom ledge detailing give the park a unique, polished look that’s totally Instagram (or TikTok!)-worthy.
One of the best parts about this place is that it’s open 24/7—ideal for early birds and night owls. You can also enjoy a late-night ride safely due to its well-lit areas.

Sargent Park Skatepark may be on the smaller side, but don’t let that fool you—it’s a solid spot for beginners and expert skaters with its ledges, rails, and quarter pipes.
We also like its interesting ditch feature that adds a bit of an old-school feel. Sure, the concrete may be a bit worn, but that just gives it character!
Right next door, you’ll find a beach volleyball center, tennis courts, and an arena, making it a great spot for an active day out. There’s also a public washroom on-site, which is always a plus.
Another great thing is that it’s not usually too crowded, so you won’t feel pressured to land every trick perfectly on the first try.
Pro Tip: Feel free to bring your pup! Dogs are welcome here, so your furry friend can chill while you skate. |

The layout encourages creativity, allowing skaters to link together smooth, flowing lines.
Designed with more advanced skaters in mind, it features street obstacles, including rails, stairs, and ledges. While beginners might find it a bit intimidating, intermediate skaters will love the mix of technical and high-speed elements.
This park even has lights for evening sessions, making it one of the few skateparks in Winnipeg where you can keep rolling after the sun goes down.
Pro Tip: Make a day out of it! With picnic tables and a playground nearby, Transcona Skatepark offers a great place to relax, refuel, and hang out between sessions. |

The park’s layout strikes a nice balance between fun and performance, making it a go-to for both beginners and seasoned skaters. From its smooth mini-ramp to the BMX-friendly flow areas, there’s plenty of space to practice and play.
Just remember—helmets are required here, so gear up before hitting the pavement.
Beyond the ramps and rails, the park also has handy amenities, such as public washrooms and about 15 benches for resting between runs.
Pro Tip: No need to pack extra water—Broadway Skate Park has a drinking fountain on-site, so you can stay refreshed and keep rolling all day! |

The park’s well-thought-out design makes it accessible and welcoming for skaters of all levels. You can perfect your technique here or just roll around for fun—its layout is easy to navigate and packed with features to keep things interesting.
The addition of a bowl means you can work on deeper transitions and smooth carving—but heads up, helmets and pads are a must!
We love that it’s also equipped with lights, making it a safe spot for an evening session.

The St. James Memorial Sports Park is a great spot for beginner skaters who want a stress-free place to practice.
The wide, smooth paths make it easy to glide without worrying about cracks or rough patches. The only obstacles you’ll have to dodge are the occasional hiker, jogger, or leashed pup—no surprise pebbles waiting to ruin your flow!
For the smoothest ride, we recommend skating along the Yellow Ribbon Greenway Trail. This popular path is well-maintained and often frequented by other skaters.
Beyond skating, there’s a pickleball court, a zipline, and swing sets—including an accessible “oodle swing.” The sand play area, new benches, picnic tables, and bike racks make it easy to turn a skate session into a full day of outdoor fun.
Pro Tip: This spot is dog-friendly, but pups must stay on a leash. So, if you’re bringing your four-legged friend along, make sure they’re ready to chill while you skate! |

Sturgeon Creek Park is a fantastic spot for roller skaters who love a scenic ride—it has a recreation trail that runs about 4 kilometers one way, following the banks of Sturgeon Creek. It’s best to visit between April and September when the weather’s perfect.
We really appreciate its smooth asphalt surface, making it super beginner-friendly.
Navigation is also a breeze here, thanks to clearly visible signs along the trail.
The trail goes under Portage Avenue, so you don’t have to worry about crossing busy streets. Between Woodhaven & Portage Ave and Hamilton & Saskatchewan Ave, there are sections with crushed limestone, but the main paved areas provide a comfy ride.
While the park is full of open green space with neatly maintained grass and a few scattered trees, note that shade is pretty limited. If you’re planning to skate on a hot day, be sure to bring sunscreen and stay hydrated.
Pro Tip: You can park at Woodhaven Community Centre, the Sturgeon Creek Park lot on Booth Drive, or even the Vimy Arena parking lot, which also has washrooms nearby. Just pick the best starting point for your skating adventure! |

Kings Park is a scenic gem just minutes from the University of Manitoba, nestled alongside the Red River. This park is a year-round favorite for outdoor enthusiasts, welcoming skiers, snowshoers, runners, cyclists, and, of course, roller skaters.
That said, this spot isn’t for beginners—the trails are mostly smooth, but some sections have uneven terrain. So, if you’re new to roller skating, you might want to build up your skills elsewhere before tackling these paths.
For experienced skaters, though, this park is a dream. The slight inclines make for a great workout, and the variety of landscapes keeps things interesting.
As a bonus, it offers some of the most beautiful sights in the city. You’ll roll past a lake, a river, a golf course, a peaceful zen garden, and forested areas—all in one session!
Pro Tip: Need a breather? We suggest stopping by the healing and meditation garden for a peaceful break before getting back on your wheels. |
