Assiniboine Park is hands down one of the best spots to go for a run in Winnipeg. It’s got everything—lush gardens, peaceful forested paths, and stunning views of the Assiniboine River.

You can start your loop pretty much anywhere, but parking near the zoo on the south side is a solid choice. From there, head north toward the river, then take the path east through the beautiful sculpture garden, loop around the pond, and make your way back.

If you’re in the mood for a challenge, you can mix it up with a little elevation. The Assiniboine Park, Wolseley, and Wellington Loop adds about 13 meters of ascent.

Before or after your run, we suggest making a day of it by dropping by the zoo, the sculpture garden, the outdoor theater, or the playgrounds!

Pro Tip:

After your run, treat yourself to a hearty meal on the Assiniboine Park Café’s scenic patio. Their Park Breakfast is a must-try—two eggs cooked your way, crispy hash browns, toast, and your choice of bacon, back bacon, or Winkler’s farmer sausage.

Winding along the Red and Assiniboine Rivers, the paved Forks Riverwalk trail serves up stunning waterfront views and an energetic city vibe. And since it connects to other downtown routes, you can easily switch things up whenever you feel like it.

The main stretch of the trail follows the western side of the Red River, taking you through The Forks, South Point Park, and across the Trans Canada Trail to Churchill Drive. It’s a smooth, scenic route that runs for about 4 km before it ends.

Looking for a longer challenge? Keep going along Churchill Drive until you hit another path leading to the end of Churchill Drive Park. That gives you a solid 7.3 km one-way run, perfect for anyone training for distance.

We recommend timing your run to catch a breathtaking sunset reflecting off the river—definitely one of the best views in the city!

Pro Tip:

Want to push your run even further? Extend your route north for another 2 km by following the path from the Riel Bridge along Waterfront Drive; you’ll pass through Stephen Juba Park and Fort Douglas Park, adding even more scenic city views.

The Crescent Drive Park trail is mostly wood-chipped, giving it a soft, natural feel underfoot. Along the way, you’ll find plenty of benches to stop and take in the river views—especially in the eastern section, where the trail runs right alongside the water.

At just over half an hour to complete, we think this trail is an easy, enjoyable route for runners of all levels. It’s also a hotspot for birdwatching, hiking, and even snowshoeing.

Best of all, (leashed) dogs are welcome, so bring your furry running buddy along.

Pro Tip:

This loop is open year-round season—be sure to come back in the fall for the colorful leaves or grab some snowshoes in the winter for a totally different experience!

The trails here are also a mix of crushed limestone, making them smooth and easy to run on—no worrying about rough terrain—just good footing and great views all around.

Before you hit the trails, drop by visitor reception; they keep runners in the loop about anything that might affect the trails, like weather conditions or seasonal wildlife activity.

The Seine River Greenway Trail is a 3 km loop with minimal foot traffic that winds along the Seine River, offering a mix of forested trails and river views. At just around 40 minutes to complete, we believe it’s an easy route to fit into any schedule.

If you want to stay close to the water, take the narrow dirt path that hugs the riverbank for some stunning views. But if you prefer a smoother, more stable route, stick to the wider gravel trail that cuts through the forest.

One must-see right along the river path is the famous “Woody” Spirit Tree—a carved tree trunk featuring faces on both sides.

Besides running, this trail is also a favorite for birdwatching, hiking, and even mountain biking. Keep an eye (and ear) out for birds flitting through the trees as you move along.

Pro Tip:

Got a furry running buddy? Dogs are welcome on the Seine River Greenway Trail, but they must be kept on a leash.

The complex sits next to a gorgeous man-made lake, and with 14.4 acres of parkland, there’s plenty of room to explore. The trails wind through gardens, across bridges, and around the water, so you never get bored with the view.

In the winter, the whole place turns into a snowy wonderland. The running trails are still open, but there’s also a skating rink, cross-country ski trails, and even a toboggan hill if you want to have some fun after your run.

Need to warm up? There’s a cozy indoor space (when the weather allows) where you can take a break and enjoy the winter vibes.

Pro Tip:

If you’re running here in the winter, we recommend wearing layers and bringing some traction grips for your shoes—some spots can get a little slippery.

One of the highlights of the trail is crossing the Omand’s Creek footbridge—it’s the perfect spot to pause for a breather and soak in the view. As you run, you’ll pass through Omand Park, Bluestem Park, and Westview Park.

While the trail is mostly continuous, there are a couple of short gaps—one between Portage Avenue and Westway, and another between Sargent and Wellington Avenue.

We love that the trail isn’t just great for runners—it’s an urban oasis for wildlife, too. Keep your eyes peeled for birds, rabbits, and maybe even a deer if you’re lucky!

Pro Tip:

If you’re running in the early morning or evening, bring bug spray—especially in the warmer months. The mix of water, trees, and tall grass makes for a beautiful run, but the mosquitoes love it too!

Winnipeg winters might be known for their chill, but they also offer a really cool running experience thanks to the Red River Mutual Trail! Imagine lacing up your shoes and hitting a 7.5-kilometer stretch of frozen river – that’s what’s waiting for you.

The initially hand-shoveled trail’s length makes it the longest in almost a decade. In fact, it’s a Guinness World Record holder for being the longest naturally frozen skating trail in the world—pretty impressive, right?

As you run, you’ll also see skaters gliding by, cyclists braving the cold, and even cross-country skiers getting their glide on. And when you need a break from the cold, there are warming huts conveniently located along the trail.

For your safety, please only access the trail from designated entry points.

As you run, enjoy the lush greenery and the lovely sights along the Red River, like the Rainbow Stage open-air theatre and the enchanting Witch’s Hut. You’ll find restrooms conveniently located near North Point Garden and Prairie’s Edge, too.

And don’t forget—the park is dog-friendly! Bring your pup along for the ride, and let them enjoy some off-leash fun in certain areas.

Pro Tip:

For the best experience, hit the park early in the morning or right before sunset. The beautiful lighting and smaller crowds create a peaceful atmosphere for a refreshing run.

With a blend of grass, dirt, and gravel, King’s Park keeps things interesting while offering both flat stretches and gentle hills to challenge your endurance. Plus, the natural beauty surrounding you makes every run feel like a mini getaway from the city.

It’s known for the King’s Park Loop, a manageable 3.5-kilometer trail that winds through river views, wooded areas, and open green spaces. You’ll cross a couple of charming footbridges and even come across a circular maze-like feature.

For those bringing a four-legged running buddy, you’ll be happy to know there’s an off-leash dog park along the river with its own meandering loop.

And if you need a cool-down, we suggest taking a moment by the river or strolling through the labyrinth for a meditative break.

Pro Tip:

Hit this trail between April and September, when the weather is mild and the paths are in top condition. Summer mornings offer cooler temperatures, while autumn runs come with stunning foliage to enjoy along the way!

St. Vital Park is a fantastic running spot, especially if you’re looking for a smooth, easy route. With wide, paved paths and mostly flat terrain, we think it’s perfect for beginners, families, or anyone who just wants a relaxed run.

Locals affectionately call it “Duck Park” for a good reason—this spot is home to a variety of friendly feathered residents. If you bring a little birdseed along, you can pause mid-run to feed mallards, wood ducks, and even some brave chickadees.

Now, the park’s 2.6-kilometer loop is an easy route that takes about 28 minutes to complete at a moderate pace. It’s a great place to ease into running or work on consistency without steep hills to slow you down.

For convenience, there are washrooms available all year, with even more facilities open in the warmer months.

Pro Tip:

The best time to run here is between March and October when the weather is mild, and the trails are at their best. We recommend heading out in the early morning or evening due to cooler temperatures and fewer people on the paths!

Little Mountain Park’s quiet surroundings make for a stress-free run, letting you focus on your breathing, pace, and the beauty around you.

We love the trail network here, with a charming aspen forest at its core and plenty of smaller paths through the landscape. In the summer, the open meadows burst with colorful wildflowers.

If you’re looking for a go-to route, try the Little Mountain Park Loop. This easy, scenic trail takes about 31 minutes to complete and is perfect for all activity levels. Keep an eye out for wildlife like owls, foxes, ground squirrels, and even the occasional deer.

After your run, why not reward yourself with a relaxing break? The park has three small picnic sites, each able to host up to 25 people.

Pro Tip:

If you’re bringing your pup along, keep them leashed on the main trails—but don’t worry, there’s a dedicated off-leash area where they can run free and burn off some energy too!
