12 Best Dessert Places in Winnipeg You’ll Daydream About Tomorrow
Whenever I skip dessert, which I very rarely do, I feel like I’m breaking the local law.
Why? Because Winnipeg’s ice cream, pastry, and cake spots are just too dangerously good to pass up. Plus, they’re everywhere—I mean, you could practically get a cavity just by walking past Portage Avenue!
No need to feel overwhelmed, though. As a certified sweet tooth owner, I can confidently guide you through amazing dessert destinations you need to visit. I’ll even tell you which treats are worth ordering (because I’m nice like that).
Keep scrolling to see the top dessert places in the Peg that are absolutely worth the extra calories.

Must-Order: Gluten-Free Honey Cake
Honey Bunny Pastry Shop is a family-run gem owned by Vira, who brought her love of Slavic baking from Ukraine nearly 20 years ago. She churns out irresistible treats based on vintage European methods.
Her display cases are filled with Slavic-inspired masterpieces you don’t usually see in the city. An example is her chocolate eclairs made from a 200-year-old recipe—light, rich, delicate, yet indulgent at the same time.
What I love here is that they constantly give out samples you get to nibble. One minute you might be trying pistachio pavlova, the next, you’re sneaking in a rugelach or truffle.
And as a really cool bonus, Vira devotes herself to gluten-free baking two days a week, using separate utensils. My favorite is the Gluten-Free Honey Cake; it’s moist, layered with creamy sweetness, and honestly tastes just like the regular version.
Pro Tip: Not surprisingly, Honey Bunny treats sell out crazy fast. By midday, the crowd favorites are usually gone, so swing by early in the day if you don’t want to miss out. |

Must-Order: Salty Carl
Chaeban Ice Cream is a lovely creamery where everything is made from scratch. Joseph Chaeban, a second-generation dairy scientist, created the shop to thank the community for helping his wife’s family escape the war in Syria.
As expected from one of the best ice cream shops in Winnipeg, their Rocky Ricardo snagged first place in an Agricultural Fair. As for me, I can never resist the Salty Carl—a salty caramel creation that‘s so addictive it should come with a warning label.
If you want a sweet, exotic adventure, try their traditional Syrian dessert, Abir Al Sham. This unique treat has hints of rose and orange blossom, along with pistachios, cashews, ricotta cheese, and orchid root powder.
And dairy-free folks can also enjoy their creations. They have a solid plant-based lineup, which includes Glen Coconut, Sherry Chocolate, and La Vida Lemon.
Pro Tip: Make sure to bring back those pint jars! Not only do you get $1 back for every clean container you return, but you’re also saving the planet—one scoop at a time! |

Must-Order: Ferrero Rocher
Dug & Betty’s Ice Creamery is a Parisian-style, 30-seat parlor tucked in Saint-Boniface. Chef Fern Kirouac named the shop after his dad’s basset hounds (adorable, right?).
They’re known for small-batch, gourmet offerings such as Strawberry Honey Balsamic Pepper and Sour Cherry with Dark Chocolate. My personal pick is the Ferrero Rocher—I just want to dive into its layers of chocolate and nutty goodness.
Plant-based, vegan, and dairy-free peeps are welcome here, too. You can go creamy with Coconut Chocolate or Soy Chocolate Caramel Dough, or take the refreshing route with fruit-based sorbettos like Raspberry and Mango.
And if you’re non-human? Even better! Bring your pup, and their staff will hand out free puppy cones, with a treat on top!
Pro Tip: Who doesn’t like some bubbly with their ice cream? Here, adults can kick back with delicious champagne, beer floats, or sparkling wine to pair with their favorite scoop. |

Must-Order: Pumpkin Spice Mini Cupcakes
Sweet Impressions has been bringing joy (and sugar highs) to Winnipeggers since 2008. Not only are their treats all baked from scratch and decorated by hand, they’re also 100% peanut and tree-nut-free.
One of my absolute favorites is their Pumpkin Spice Mini Cupcakes—little bite-sized beauties swirled with cinnamon icing. Believe me, you’ll want more than one, but if you’re planning to snag like a dozen or so to bring home, order a day ahead.
Other desserts on offer include cookies, cakes, and doughnuts, which you can buy as is or customize. Simply visit them in-store or browse online for options.
What’s cool is that they have those fun cookie decorating kits. Be it for your kids, nieces, nephews, or let’s be honest, yourself, you can play with your food and create something yummy and Instagram-worthy.
Pro Tip: Nothing says “host with the most” like dessert that doubles as edible decor. So, feel free to order custom cakes or logo cookies for your next event! |

Must-Order: Red Velvet Cookie
Hayley Pache opened Indulge Café and Bakery to highlight homemade baking and fresh meals prepared with care, while also supporting local producers.
It’s nice to know that your morning caffeine fix comes from Sheepdog Brew Co., or your next cup of tea is courtesy of Cove and Creek Tea. I swear, supporting small businesses makes each sip taste even better.
They serve a wide range of bread, some of which can be enjoyed as desserts. We’re talking yummy options like 12-grain, honey whole wheat, and cheese loaves.
And then there’s their Afternoon Tea option—a parade of savory bites, delicate pastries, and sweets paired with playful teas like Pina Colada or Prairie Peach. Heads up—make sure to snag a Red Velvet Cookie (my favorite) off the tray before your friend does!
Pro Tip: Weekends tend to fill up fast because of their popular Afternoon Tea bookings. If you prefer a quieter experience, visit during weekdays instead. |

Must-Order: Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream
Sargent Sundae is a family-favorite spot that has been keeping people cool with cones, floats, milkshakes, and sundaes for decades! This place has a nostalgic, old-school ice cream shop vibe that never seems to go out of style.
Its location is pretty perfect, too—it’s right across Assiniboine Park by the footbridge. I just love grabbing a scoop, strolling across the bridge, and enjoying one of the best views in the city.
One scoop that I favor is their seasonal Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream—to be honest, I was hooked after one bite. It has that perfect autumn spiced pie-in-a-cone flavor that’s worth waiting all year for.
Milkshakes more your speed? Their flavors go way beyond vanilla, offering Rum & Butter, Peanut Butter, and even Pina Colada options.
Pro Tip: Keep in mind that this spot is cash and debit card only, so come prepared. |

Must-Order: Lotus Cookie Crunch Funnel Cake
Since 2014, D Spot Desserts has been an iconic spot to go to when you want a sugar rush and photo op rolled into one. Their Insta-worthy desserts are halal, meaning definitely no alcohol or gelatin.
When you visit, do yourself a favor and get their Lotus Cookie Crunch Funnel Cake. This beauty is crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside, piled high with soft serve, Lotus cookie crumble, toffee bits, all the good stuff.
They’re also known for their Milk Cakes—melt-in-your-mouth treats that come in original or chocolate. You can customize them with toppings like strawberry coulis, Nutella, Lotus, Oreo, and pistachios—are you hungry yet?
And don’t feel left out, my gluten-free friends. They serve GF waffles, crepes, and pancakes just for you.
Pro Tip: Sign up for their online loyalty program—you collect digital stamps right on your phone (Apple Wallet or Google Pay). After 7 purchases, you score a free Croffle, which is basically a croissant-waffle hybrid sent from heaven. |

Must-Order: Almond Croissant
La Belle Baguette in Saint Boniface is a French bakery founded by pastry chef Alix Loiselle. All her treats are so tempting, you’ll be sure to leave with a heavy pastry bag.
As you may have already guessed, the spot is known for its amazing croissants. My top pick is their Almond Croissant, which has flaky, buttery layers that hug a rich almond filling, dusted with powdered sugar. Warning: Come early, since these sell out fast.
The pastry magic doesn’t stop here. You can also snag danishes, bear claws, tarts, eclairs, and their oh-so-yummy cinnamon buns.
After choosing your treat for the day, get a cup of tea or a latte and snag a seat on their streetside patio. Nothing’s better than people-watching while enjoying a fancy, flaky French pastry.
Pro Tip: Don’t forget to sign up for their newsletter. You’ll stay in the loop for their specials, events, or amazing promotions. |

Must-Order: Hazelnut Chocolate Croissant
Gâto Bakeshop was started in 2018 by Laura, who turned her love for vegan baking and eco-friendly living into a passion project. The name gato translates to cake and cat in her native tongue—two things she loves.
Her shop’s famous for its croissants, which are a true labor of love—they’re made with natural sourdough levain and crafted over a 72-hour process. Watch out for their Weekly Croissant Specials, featuring picks you have to try.
As for me, I’m obsessed with their Hazelnut Chocolate Croissant. I enjoy biting into its perfectly crisp shell that gives way to rich, dark chocolate and house-made hazelnut paste—all 100% vegan!
Of course, no pastry is complete without coffee, so I always pair mine with their latte made using small-batch Ethiopian beans from Apple Blossom farms. It’s smooth and aromatic, with just the right kick.
Pro Tip: Craving for cronuts in the Peg? Gato has you covered (available only on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays). These sourdough vegan beauties, topped with glazes and fun extras, sell out in a blink—so come early! |

Hours: Mon – Sun: 12 PM – 10 PM

Must-Order: The Peach Velvet
Bridge Drive-In—better known as BDI—is Winnipeg’s way of saying, “summer has officially started!” One of my all-time favorite spots, this retro stand has been scooping up joy for over 60 years.
The menu is packed to the brim with classics, but if you ask me, The Peach Velvet is the showstopper. It’s a thick upside-down shake, layered with peach sundae, finished with whipped cream, a cherry, and optional peanuts for that sweet-salty crunch.
What’s cool is that they offer vegan-friendly soft-serve. You can swap in vanilla for any of their specialties, plus they roll out a new vegan flavor every month.
Half of the charm here is the location. You can grab a nice, shaded concrete table outside, or take your treat across Elm Park Bridge and let the Red River set the scene—I almost always choose the second option.
Pro Tip: Parking fills up fast on those hot summer nights, so save yourself the stress. I suggest parking a bit farther away and turning it into a mini riverside walk to earn your cone. |

Must-Order: Chocoberry Tart
Chocoberry Dessert House in Osborne Village is a charming dessert spot filled with treats so pretty you’ll almost feel bad eating them—almost.
Their milkshakes are a full production, decorated with whipped cream art that’s too cute to touch. But they don’t stop there—their gorgeous sundaes and fluffy golden waffles are just as unforgettable.
Don’t leave without trying their Chocoberry Tart. It’s built on an Oreo crust, topped with silky, luscious chocolate, fresh strawberries, and crunchy almond flakes.
To balance the sugar rush, I recommend getting one of their iced fruit juices. You can stick with classic lemonade, or branch out into pure peach juice or a tropical peach-mango-orange blend.
Pro Tip: Just a tiny heads up—this place isn’t wheelchair accessible since it has stairs at the entrance, so plan accordingly. |
Baked Expectations

Must-Order: Lemon Cheesecake
Baked Expectations has been a Winnipeg staple since 1983, sitting in the heart of Osborne and just steps away from the iconic Confusion Corner. I really love its retro 50s vibe, with black and white checkered tiled floors and LED lights.
You can choose from over thirty desserts, including pies, tortes, and cheesecakes. Full disclosure: I have a weakness for their legendary Lemon Cheesecake, made with fresh lemons and topped with a tart sauce balanced with cream.
For anyone looking for gluten-free options, you’re in luck. Their Deadly Chocolate Mousse, Pavlova, and Hazelnut Meringue are as indulgent as their other desserts.
We love that you can even bring that amazing sweetness to your next intimate party or corporate event. Simply collaborate with them for a customized menu.
Pro Tip: Share your love for sweet things by presenting someone with a Baked Gift Card. It’s available in any denomination, but for me, $25 is the perfect amount—perfect for dessert and coffee for two. |
