The 5 Best Cake Shops in Winnipeg for Your Next Celebration

Flavor and Freshness: Taste is always my top priority when grading local bakeries. I looked for moist layers, real buttercreams, and high-quality flavour profiles that skip the artificial shortcuts.

Design Skills: A gorgeous presentation turns a simple dessert into a memorable centerpiece. I judged each spot on its artistic execution, clean piping work, and ability to handle complex custom requests.

Allergy Accommodations: Safe baking environments matter a lot for families managing severe food restrictions. I gave priority to shops with dedicated nut-free, vegan, or gluten-free options that avoid cross-contamination.

Reliability and Service: Planning a big event needs smooth communication and  prompt orders. I looked at customer satisfaction, delivery app partnerships, and how easy pickup logistics really are.

Tracking down the perfect dessert for a big milestone or a casual weekend craving can feel like a real mission. Winnipeg has a surprisingly fierce dessert scene, which makes it tricky to spot the standout treats.

To help, I went looking for the best cake shop in Winnipeg. I focused on deep flavours, perfectly whipped frostings, and designs that make people stop and stare.

Some folks need an elegant tiered centerpiece for a wedding, while others just want a fun smash cake for a first birthday. Either way, here are the local bakeries delivering top-tier sweetness right now.

How much does a cake cost in Winnipeg?

1. Bita Bakery (Jupiter Artistic Cake)

bita-bakery-jupiter-artistic-cake

Website:https://bitabakery.com/

Address: 105 – 2800 Pembina Hwy

Contact: (204) 615-6747

Hours: Wednesday, 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM; Thursday to Sunday, 11:30 AM to 7:00 PM

Bringing two generations of Middle Eastern baking to Manitoba, Bita Bakery is a family-run spot that weaves traditional Iranian flavours into gorgeous custom creations.

The team carries on the legacy of the previous owners by crafting fully personalized cakes that double as edible works of art. You also get a fun global menu where Persian cream puffs sit right next to fluffy Japanese cheesecakes.

Pinning down a cake that nails a specific theme can be tough, but they communicate clearly to get detailed requests right.

On top of that, you can order their daily pastries through major local delivery apps.

The catch is that popular daily items sell out quickly, so it helps to order ahead. The far south Pembina location can also make transport stressful if you live across town.

Pros

  • High customer satisfaction ratings
  • Great for milestone custom requests
  • Diverse global pastry fusion menu
  • Excellent delivery app coverage

Cons

  • Limited daily walk-in stock
  • Far south city location

Absolutely divine

I ordered a cake for my mom’s birthday, and it was absolutely divine! The cake was light, not overly sweet, and made with real cream (not buttercream!), such a refreshing difference. It was beautifully decorated with fresh flowers and filled with vibrant, juicy fruit. Everyone at the table raved about how delicious it was. The team was also a dream to work with, so kind, responsive, and made ordering from out of town incredibly easy.

2. Gunn’s Bakery

gunns-bakery

Website:http://www.gunnsbakery.com/

Address: 247 Selkirk Avenue

Contact: (204) 582-2364 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Thursday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM; Friday, 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM; Saturday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Serving handmade treats since 1937, Gunn’s Bakery is a legendary institution that delivers old-country baking methods feeling like a slice of local history.

Everything carries a strict VKW (Vaad Ha’ir of Winnipeg) Kosher Dairy certification, which gives community gatherings a dedicated option. The whole kitchen is also peanut-free to protect families managing severe allergies.

I recently chatted with a local event planner who swears by their traditional Winnipeg Shmoo cake for community celebrations. They offer flexible sizing from small rounds up to jumbo sheet cakes, plus custom photo printing for a personal touch.

Just keep in mind that the decorating style stays strictly traditional, so it’s not the spot for trendy, sculpted designs.

Since they close on Sundays, weekend pickup timing also takes a little extra planning.

Pros

  • Established local history since 1937
  • Strict kosher dairy certification
  • Entirely peanut-free baking facility
  • Flexible sheet cake sizing options

Cons

  • Traditional decorating style only
  • Closed on Sundays

Outstanding commitment to feeding our city

In my role at The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce, and my personal love of everything baked at Gunn’s, they make & provide quality deliciousness here. Catering orders, special event cakes, bagels, buns, soups, and oooh, the breads! Been there, done that and continue to often. I dare you to pick only 1 item each and every time! Thank you Gunn’s for your outstanding commitment to feeding our city.

They worked magic on my cake

I have been going there for years. Looks like family run, as everyone is very welcoming. Ordered my son’s birthday cake which was well made with an elaborate design. Had an “accident” with the cake and don’t know how they worked magic to get the cake looking like nothing happened. They also refused to charge me extra for fixing the cake. I am quite a happy customer.

Stepping inside feels like entering a welcoming neighbourhood hub where you can easily talk through large-scale wedding services.

While they offer gluten-friendly custom adjustments, the active bread kitchen means those items aren’t safe for severe celiac needs.

Each flavor won us over

This bakery is absolutely delightful. The staff are fantastic, friendly, knowledgeable, and always eager to help with any questions about wedding cakes. A few weeks before our wedding, we tried their tasting box, and each flavor won us over. Naturally, we decided to order our wedding cake from them. It turned out beautifully, just as we’d envisioned, and tasted incredible. We couldn’t have been happier.

Allergen-free options for everyone

This is our go to for sweet treats, especially birthday cakes! We love the allergen free options so everyone can feel included in special moments. Our most favourite is the salted caramel chocolate cake! It’s basically a birthday staple in our household now. The new party trays were a huge hit too. It had a great variety of different treats that were all amazing.

5. For Us Bakery

for-us-bakery

Website:https://forusbakery.com/

Address: 1-1353 McPhillips Street

Contact: 204-334-8880 | [email protected]

Hours: Wednesday to Saturday, 11:30 AM to 7:00 PM; Sunday, 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM

At For Us Bakery, owner Shen Wu blends East Asian flavours with classic French and Canadian pastry techniques.

The signature items are meticulous crepe cakes. Each of them is built from about twenty-five handmade, paper-thin layers and finished with premium ingredients like real Earl Grey-infused cream and pure pistachio paste instead of artificial flavourings.

That same care carries into their small-batch specialties, like a matcha strawberry tiramisu made fresh for celebrations.

The trade-off is that everything is crafted by hand, so you need to give two days’ notice. The tiny storefront also has no indoor seating.

Daily flavours can be unpredictable too, so it helps to check their social media before you head over. If you just want a quick morning fix instead, a few local donut shops are worth a look.

Pros

  • Meticulous 25-layer crepe cakes
  • High-quality real premium ingredients
  • Unique Asian-French fusion flavours
  • Exceptional independent review ratings

Cons

  • Zero indoor seating space
  • Two-day advance order notice
  • Unpredictable daily flavour stocks

Can’t go wrong with anything you order

I always try to stop by whenever I’m in Winnipeg for work. Can’t go wrong with anything you order. Personal favorite for cake is the pistachio orange blossom and earl grey for the creme puff. Coffee was good too!! Best part is the ever lovely and accommodating owner. Made a mistake on the date for a preorder one time and she worked her magic to help me out.

One of the best cakes I have ever eaten

Ordered Taro White Chocolate Crepe Cake, it was simply amazing. One of the best cakes I have ever eaten. Creamy, light, full of flavor. We also ordered Banana Dulce De Leche Cream puffs, also so good, just melt in your mouth. I would highly recommend hitting up this bakery.
