10 Best Churches in Winnipeg That Local Communities Go to for Meaningful Worship

A friend of mine hosted some visitors who were planning to move to Winnipeg. When they asked him to take them to a church, he low-key panicked and just drove to the nearest one—it wasn’t bad, but he wished he’d had a better plan.

The thing is, Winnipeg’s packed with amazing churches. You could peacefully reflect, take in the gorgeous architecture, or mingle with like-minded people—basically, these spots are all worth checking out.

So, if you’re looking for a spiritual community you can join, here are the best churches in Winnipeg that you shouldn’t miss.

Saint Boniface Cathedral

Address: 180 De La Cathedrale Ave
Hours: Mon – Fri: 8 AM – 12 PM, 1 PM – 4 PM
Contact: (204) 233-7304

Saint Boniface Cathedral is a Roman Catholic church that has been around since 1818. It serves the Franco-Manitoban community and the eastern part of Manitoba, and honestly, it’s just as much a landmark as it is a church.

The building is seriously impressive, with a mix of neoclassical, Romanesque, and Byzantine styles. It has a giant arch, a triple-arched entryway, and a round window—definitely a facade that feels like something out of Europe.

If you’re planning to attend mass, you could visit on Saturday at 5 PM and Sunday at 10 AM. You could also go most weekdays at 9:30 AM (except Thursdays, which are reserved for services in seniors’ residences).

I also love their fascinating cathedral grounds—you’ll find three cemeteries here. The Sacre-Coeur Cemetery, also called the Belgian cemetery, is especially lovely.

Pro Tip:

You can rent spaces at Saint Boniface Cathedral for events. The Great Hall can hold up to 200 people, and there’s a smaller audio-visual room for 50.

St. Mary’s Cathedral

Address: 353 St Mary Ave
Hours:

  • Tue – Fri: 9 AM – 4 PM
  • Saturday: 12 PM – 4 PM

Contact: (204) 947-0294

St. Mary’s Cathedral is the “Mother Church” of the Archdiocese of Winnipeg. No wonder, since it serves as the spiritual home to around 900 families.

Architecturally, the cathedral has that classic Romanesque Revival style, with its rounded arches, solid stone base, and striking brick walls. It also has colorful faux marble and ornate details—you can just feel the beauty and craftsmanship here.

Mass is held on Saturdays at 5 PM and Sundays at 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM (just remember to use the side doors on Carlton and Hargrave). If weekdays work better, mass happens Tuesday through Friday at 12:10 PM.

For those seeking the Sacrament of Reconciliation, it’s currently available by appointment. Simply reach out by phone or email.

Pro Tip:

St. Mary’s Cathedral offers something really unique—you can request a votive candle to be lit for you, along with a prayer said on your behalf. Just fill out a simple form online, and Father Geoffrey will personally take care of it.

Over the years, well-known Christian recording artists have been part of the staff, including Juno Award nominee Jon Buller and Covenant Award winner Drew Brown.

They offer programming for all ages every Sunday at 10 AM, plus a range of activities for youth, young adults, and adults throughout the week.

Pro Tip:

If you’re bringing little ones to The Meeting Place, there’s a nursery at the back of the auditorium just for parents with infants. It’s equipped with nursing chairs, support pillows, and a change table.

Beyond Sunday mornings, WEFC offers adult discipleship classes and summer worship programs. It’s the kind of church that keeps things active and engaging to help you grow spiritually and socially.

We also love their creative extras like Monday night pickleball games or campfires at the church’s baseball diamond.

When the Bustard family moved to Manitoba in 2007 to 2008, Bishop Wayne felt God calling him. A few years later, he became Lead Pastor at Believers Church, and the place has been thriving ever since.

Sunday services run about 1.5 to 2 hours (no set limit). There’s space for modern, contemporary, and traditional worship, plus sermons that are easy to apply.

We love that there’s no dress code, either. Whether you’re in jeans, sneakers, or Sunday best, you’ll feel right at home.

Parents will love the safe and fun kids’ area, where children are securely checked in with KidCheck. Here, they can enjoy worship, games, lessons, and activities.

Back in 1999, Pastor Dustin Funk and a small Italian-speaking group started dreaming of a church that felt different. That vision became Oasis Church.

As a nondenominational church, it isn’t tied to any particular label like Baptist or Methodist. They just want the church to be welcoming and approachable to everyone.

On Sundays, you can expect great music, meaningful teaching that connects to everyday life, and special environments tailored to kids, teens, and young adults.

We love that they offer spaces for every stage of life. Nursery and preschool kids can enjoy Waumba Land, elementary kids have Upstreet, middle schoolers can join Collide, and high schoolers can go to insideOu.

Pro Tip:

If you’re a college student, don’t skip Oasis Church’s Living Room. It’s a smaller, more relaxed environment in the church where you can build real friendships.

Sundays offer two morning services at 9:15 AM and 11 AM. Families love that Kidz Rock runs alongside the services (except Saturdays).

As for young adults, the Winnipeg South Young Adults group meets bi-weekly on the first and third Thursday of every month at 7:30 PM.

Another unique offering is their Transformations courses. These classes take deep biblical concepts and break them down into simple, practical lessons.

Ladies can join the Evening Bible Study on Wednesdays at 7 PM, while men can connect at the Men’s Bible Study on Thursdays at 7 PM. These smaller gatherings are a great way to dive deeper into Scripture while also building meaningful friendships.

Sundays are just as engaging online as they are in person. You can join services at 9 and 11 AM via Facebook or YouTube, and even follow along with sermon notes through the YouVersion bible app.

For those who want to be involved, there are plenty of volunteer opportunities available. Many of Calvary Temple’s ministries are looking for extra hands, and it’s a wonderful way to use your gifts, meet new people, and serve the community together.

Pro Tip:

Calvary Temple has a Deaf Fellowship that ministers to the spiritual needs of the deaf community in Winnipeg. They meet in the 3rd-floor chapel of the A.H. Argue Building.

We love that from week to week, little ones get to enjoy crafts, games, and creative projects that help them learn more about God while working together.

One of the highlights of the year is the Winter Camp at Cedarwood. It’s a weekend full of tubing, skating, outdoor adventures, and plenty of worship and Bible study.

Sundays at Springs are full of energy and encouragement, with services at 9 AM, 10:45 AM, and 12:30 PM. Kids even have their very own services, and parents can keep up with what’s happening through the Spring Kids’ Instagram page.

We love their creative events, too. A favorite is Play on the Patio, where people of all ages can enjoy special Wednesday activities like painting and woodworking while sipping treats from a cafe.

Another is geared towards men, such as the Men’s Charity Golf Classic, which includes 18 holes, a buffet, and prizes. Most importantly, it raises funds for Springs Inner City Youth Programs.

For some online action, check out Springs Church’s Zoom Group. These small online communities meet weekly to discuss Sunday’s message, build friendships, and support one another.
