12 Best Fine Dining Restaurants in Winnipeg You’ll Want to Book Tonight

Nowadays, it’s hard to find a true fine dining restaurant when you’re constantly bombarded by information left and right. I mean, you have countless influencers and vloggers claiming that what they’ve just “discovered” is the best spot in town.

But take it from a local—Winnipeg offers only a handful of fine dining hidden gems that are timeless and truly worth the hype. These are the places I grew up visiting for every special occasion: birthdays, anniversaries, family milestones, you name it.

So avoid those hyped-up, flash-in-a-pan eateries. Here’s a genuine guide to the top fine dining spots in the Peg.

Le Petit Chef

Address: 2 Lombard Pl

Hours: Thurs – Sat: 5 PM–10:30 PM

Contact: +1 204-985-6255

Must-Order: Le Petit Chef & Family Classic Menu

Le Petit Chef is billed as the smallest chef in the world—it combines fine dining and 3D storytelling. Honestly, the whole show blew my mind; imagine watching a tiny animated chef run across your table, chop ingredients, and set things on fire!

Each course comes to life with themed music, props, and a little movie projected onto your table. The videos are the same for everyone, so you don’t have to worry about missing out.

You can choose from three menu options: Classic, Vegetarian, or Kids.

My favorite is their Le Petit Chef & Family Classic Menu, where you’ll be served amazing dishes like spring pea soup, summer crab farfalle, and beef tenderloin with autumn squash. As for dessert, you’ll get a delicious winter warm chocolate brownie.

Pro Tip:

We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes before your booking time. The experience is structured around the projection show, so latecomers have to wait for the right moment to enter (and might miss a course or two).

Must-Order: Herd + Bird Sharing Platter

Bistro on Notre Dame is a cozy Red River Metis bistro that puts an elevated spin on comfort food, focusing on local, ethical, and sustainable ingredients.

My favorite here is the Herd + Bird platter—a gorgeous spread of Montreal-smoked bison, rabbit, and peppered turkey. It also comes with a trio of breads: three sisters’, fry, and sourdough.

To balance all that rich, smoky meat, try their Bear and Beaver drink. This fizzy mix of root beer, cream soda, orange cream, and ginger beer is refreshing and delicious.

If you’re going with a group that has different dietary needs, no worries. They have separate plant-based and celiac-friendly menus.

Pro Tip:

Keep an eye on their online specials. They sometimes offer incredible deals like the Bison Tomahawk + 3 chef-curated courses for $175 (good for two)—perfect for a BFF hangout or a date night.

Must-Order: Tagliatelle

If you’re craving Italian comfort food, Harth Mozza & Wine Bar is the place to be. Every dish here is crafted from seasonal, local ingredients built around time-honored recipes from Italy.

They’re best known for house-made pastas and cheese, and trust me, they live up to the hype. It would be a travesty to go here without trying their Tagliatelle (my favorite), featuring duck confit, wild mushrooms, brown butter, and mascarpone.

For groups or families, they have an Alla Famiglia option. The portions are designed for sharing, and the meal unfolds over a relaxed two-hour seating.

Speaking of which, they’re happy to welcome groups of 12 guests from Tuesday through Thursday, with set seatings at 5:30 PM or 8:30 PM. Just make sure to make a reservation 30 days in advance.

Pro Tip:

Let me help you pick out a gift for your favorite foodie: a Harth gift card! You can buy physical cards in person or e-gift cards online, which can be sent via email or text.

Sous Sol

Address: 22-222 Osborne St

Hours: Wed – Thurs: 5 PM–12 AM

  Fri – Sat: 5 PM–1 AM

Must-Order: Boar Chop

Sous Sol is an upscale French-Canadian spot that has mastered the European rustic chic atmosphere.

Everyone seems to be talking about their fresh oysters that come with mignonette, lemon, horseradish, and Chumbawamba sauce. As for the main, I love their hearty Boar Chop, served with dijonnaise and braised cabbage.

No night at Sous Sol is complete without one of their playful cocktails. Try their popular zombie—a mix of Plantador 5-Year, Demerara, and Wray & Nephew rums, as well as an array of tropical fruits.

And for night owls, they offer a Late Night Menu, served after 10:30 PM—great for post-concert or after-party cravings.

Pro Tip:

Sous Sol means basement in French, and this spot lives up to its name—you’ll find it tucked away under Osborne Village, behind 222 Osborne Street. The secret entrance is through a plain black awning and a door labeled Vandelay Industries!

Nola

Address: 300 Tache Ave, Unit 101

Hours: Tue – Thurs: 11 AM–3 PM, 5–10 PM

  Fri – Sat: 11 AM–3 PM, 5–11 PM

Contact: +1 204-505-0760

Must-Order: Japanese Karaage Fried Chicken

Nola is led by the incredibly talented Chef Emily Butcher, who offers upscale dishes that celebrate her Pacific Northwest roots. It’s no surprise that this place made the list of Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants.

My absolute obsession here is the Japanese Karaage Fried Chicken—crispy and juicy pieces of heaven. It’s served with spicy mayo, fermented genmaicha slaw, avocado, and bonito flakes.

Vegetarians are in for a treat, too—their Gunpowder Roast Carrot is a plant-based crowd pleaser; think honey-glazed carrots with gunpowder seasoning and whipped feta. We love that they offer a dedicated Vegan Menu, so everyone can sample their food.

If you enjoyed your meal, don’t forget to purchase their Nola Gift Cards so that your loved ones can check them out!

Pro Tip:

Don’t look further for a private space. You can book Nola for events like a cocktail party, a networking night, or a sit-down, multi-course meal prepared by Chef Emily.

Passero

Website: https://www.passerowinnipeg.com/

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/passerorestaurant

Address: 774 Corydon Ave

Hours: Mon – Sat: 5–10 PM

Contact: +1 204-219-7300

Must-Order: Braised Short Rib

If you’ve ever been in Little Italy, chances are, you’ve passed by the charming Passero. The first time I walked in, I fell in love with the vibe: a mix of postmodern charm and funky 1970s aesthetics—very chic, which definitely matches their fare.

They serve classic and elegant Italian and Mediterranean share plates, conceptualized by the nationally acclaimed Chef Scott Bagshaw.

One dish I can never skip is their Braised Short Rib—very rich and impossibly tender. It’s served with broccolini, risotto bianco, and aged balsamic, which ties everything together oh-so-perfectly.

Of course, no Italian fine dining experience is complete without the right wine. Their wine list features crisp whites, bold reds, and playful sparklings that pair beautifully with every dish.

Pro Tip:

If you’re addicted to Passero, you can snag one of their team T-shirts online, designed by Nowaday Studio and printed locally by Stoke Screen Printing. It has cute, quirky characters on the back and a tiny Passero logo near your heart—so sweet!

Né de Loup

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/yourenoteca/

Address: 1670 Corydon Ave

Hours: Wed – Sun: 5 PM–10 PM

Contact: +1 204-487-1529

Must-Order: Parisian Gnocchi

Né de Loup is a cozy Parisian bistro by acclaimed chef Scott Bagshaw (yes, him again!). The name means “wolf-born” in French, a nod to the myth of Romulus and Remus, Rome’s legendary founders who were raised by a wolf.

I just love the space, with its custom cherub wall and leather seating. And their menu matches the elegant space, paying respect to European roots—rich sauces, careful technique, and elegant plating.

One dish that would be almost a crime to miss is the Parisian Gnocchi: soft, pillowy perfection served with confit of rabbit, peas, herbs, black truffle, and parmesan. I swear, one bite, and you’ll be hooked instantly.

Just a heads up—since French cuisine leans heavily on cream, butter, and cheese, they aren’t able to modify dishes for dairy-free diets. That’s because their menu is curated, and each dish takes hours of prep.

Pro Tip:

End your night on the sweetest note possible with their Double Chocolate Tart, topped with creme fraiche and fleur de sel—a silky indulgence that you deserve.

529 Wellington Steakhouse

Address: 529 Wellington Crescent

Hours: Mon – Fri: 10:45 AM–10:30 PM

  Saturday: 4:30 PM–11:30 PM

  Sunday: 4:30 PM–10:30 PM

Contact: +1 204-487-8325

Must-Order: Beef Wellington

Set inside a beautifully restored mansion, 529 Wellington Steakhouse was originally built in 1913 for a hardware merchant. This heritage building has lived many lives, from a Shriners’ hall to one of the city’s most sophisticated fine dining spots.

The restaurant’s second floor has both private rooms and elegant dining spaces. And when the weather cooperates, you can’t beat the Terrace, a sunny outdoor spot where I typically linger over lunch.

The clue is in their name—a dish that is something of a legend here is the Beef Wellington; perfectly seared beef tenderloin wrapped in delicate puff pastry, layered with mushroom duxelles. Each bite is buttery and full of deep, comforting flavor.

As for dessert, they have house-made ice creams, with classic flavors like Vanilla Bean, Salted Caramel, Strawberry White, and Dark Belgian Chocolate. They also have a featured flavor of the day for those who love a surprise.

Pro Tip:

Nothing says luxury like caviar, and 529 Wellington knows it. That’s why they have a dedicated Caviar Menu, which features refined options like the Osetra Classic—rich and nutty with a buttery, briny creaminess.

The Gates on Roblin

Must-Order: Prime Rib

The Gates on Roblin was once the elegant home of Sir Tomthy Eaton. Now, it has grown into one of Winnipeg’s more prestigious fine dining destinations.

Spanning seven acres, this gorgeous space has a 16,000-square-foot banquet hall, an elegant lounge area, and one of the city’s best verandas. In fact, it’s one of my favorite spots to sip wine while watching the sunset.

Their chefs offer dishes crafted with care, striking a balance between classic and modern cuisine. A must-try is their sumptuous Prime Rib, seasoned and slow-roasted to perfection, then carved to order and served with creamy garlic-whipped potatoes.

If you’re planning something special, you can book one of their private estate rooms that can host groups of 12 to 80 people. These come complete with choice menus and reception packages.

Pro Tip:

Make sure to visit Gates on Roblin’s tiny bakery and take home some of their lovely cakes and pastries.

Must-Order: Gnocchi Sorrentina

Vida Cucina Italia is situated in the lovely Fort Garry Hotel, offering the warmth and authenticity of Italian cooking.

Whenever I’m craving pasta, I always order their delicious Gnocchi Sorrentina, made with handmade yellow potato gnocchi bathed in a rich San Marzano DOP tomato sauce. It’s also topped with Parmigiano Reggiano and burrata, making it creamy and tangy.

They have an in-house sommelier who curates a world-class wine list, which pairs stunningly with each course. Depending on your dish, you might get a bold red from Tuscany or a crisp white from Veneto.

You can also share Italy’s fine culinary tradition with your foodie friend via their Vida Cucina Italia Gift Card. And for an additional $6, you get a fancy black Gift Card Box with a ribbon and magnetic closure.

Pro Tip:

For parties of six, book online via OpenTable up to 60 days in advance. If you have a larger group, email or call them to secure tables and explore menu options.

  Sunday: 4 PM – 10 PM

Must-Order: Beef Wellington

Hy’s Steakhouse and Cocktail Bar is an iconic spot that has been serving dry-aged steaks for over 65 years. This place just drips with opulence, from its multi-dining room and soaring ceilings to the bookshelf-lined walls.

You can go wrong with their amazing Beef Wellington—perfectly-cooked filet of beef tenderloin wrapped in golden puff pastry with foie gras and oyster mushroom duxelle. Finished with a red wine jus, it’s the kind of dish that defines why Hy’s is still around.

As for seafood lovers, they have a scrumptious Seafood Platter. It’s an oceanic dream featuring Atlantic lobster tail, jumbo prawns, fresh oysters, and scallop ceviche.

Make sure to pair your meal with one of their expertly crafted classic cocktails or a glass of fine wine from their curated list.

Pro Tip:

Do yourself a favor and order Hy’s Banana Foster, which is prepared tableside. It’s a show in itself—ripe bananas sauteed in brown butter, brown sugar, and fresh orange juice, flambeed with dark rum, and served over vanilla ice cream—yes, please!

Must-Order: Filet Mignon Au Poivre

Family-owned since 1983, Resto Gare And Train Bar Bistro is set in a gorgeously restored 1913 train station. They offer an authentic French menu that highlights locally sourced ingredients.

A melt-in-your-mouth dish that I love is their Filet Mignon Au Poivre. It’s an 8-oz grilled beef tenderloin smothered in a creamy green peppercorn brandy sauce. This is a wonderful example of why French cuisine is synonymous with fine dining.

Note that they also cater to dietary needs. Just let your server know if you have food allergies or gluten sensitivities, and their chefs will do their best to accommodate.

As a bonus, their wine list is curated by Curtis Love, who became Manitoba’s youngest certified sommelier at just 22! Options include light, refreshing wines and bold, expressive reds.

Pro Tip:

You can visit on a Friday night for candelit dining with live piano music, or stop by Wednesdays starting in May for Jazz at the Station on the patio (or indoors if the weather is bad).
